WWE Backlash 2026 took place on Saturday, May 9, at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. The event, themed around the fallout from WrestleMania 42, was headlined by a World Heavyweight Championship match where Roman Reigns defeated Jacob Fatu to retain his title.

Major Announcements
During the event, John Cena announced the creation of the "John Cena Classic". This new tournament will feature stars from both the main roster and NXT, with a new championship to be awarded based on fan voting—meaning even superstars who lose their matches can remain eligible to win the title. 
The event was also significant as the first major WWE Premium Live Event to stream on ESPN Unlimited in the United States, following the expiration of the company's previous deal with Peacock.
