We went to Screen Unseen up at Amc theaters. Screen Unseen is a day they due a prerelease 3 or 4 days before a movie that has not released yet gets released. They don't tell you what movie or genre unless it is Scream unseen then you know it is a horror flick All of them are usually rated R but they will let you know the rating before you go.

We went to it and the movie they chose was Slanted .

I am sorry i am just now getting to posting the review on this i was sort of back up on things but here we are.

I'll tell you a little ore about it ..

This Chinese family moves to the us and the daughter feels like she will never get far or make it because she isn't fitting in the right way because she is an immigrant and feels her skin, eyes, hair, and etc was not the right color or whatever to really fit in. Apparently being white is the only way to be able to go far in this movie. So she goes through with a transformation to become white and tricks her parent into signing a paper so she can. She is 17 and wants to be prom queen and thinks she has no chance unless she is white because apparently white people get privilege in all aspects including beauty.

The whole thing is satire and makes fun and jokes about white people throughout. It could have been a very good story but i personally have faced a lot of hate and racism because i am white towards basically every color of skin out there. I have never cared about peoples color of skin, hair, eyes, etc i just care about the person as a person and what they are on the inside and so for me i will never enjoy racially driven movies. It was suppose to be a movie that talks about the struggle of immigrants and how it is hard to fit in and the toll it takes on them and i totally get it. If that is what they did....however like most other movies, shows, and other racially driven media it was lets make fun of white people and i mean they even have a song in there that is basically saying if you aren't white you aren't right and that is so messed up in all forms. It says how white people fit in because they have no culture which is wrong because we do just because we are white doesn't mean we don't have our own things like we come from English backgrounds, Irish, Scottish, all that over there. For example my culture and heritage i celebrate most is Irish and then i have German and Italian and Native in me. We are all pretty much mutts but we have culture and stuff we just love and cherish other cultures as well. I respect everyone's culture and enjoy them while still respecting them. We are told we don't know how it feels this and that but we do.

If there is one thing this movie did it was make me think about alot of things and while i understand what it was trying to do i really think it could have been done in a different way. I personally did not enjoy one minute of the movie i found it offensive not just for white people but for other cultures because everyone is beautiful and should always love and cherish the skin, culture, and heritage they are living in. I don't know i understand i may not understand systemic racism but i di understand racism trust me. ( I have been yelled at for being a dumb, ugly white bitch, automatically hated because i am white, i got sa'd and almost unalived because i am white.... i have been robbed and told its because i am a dumb white bitch...i even watched my daughter be racially talked down too. I had a brick thrown at my car, my head, and my daughter just because we are white especially during the blm movement.) I have suffered because of my skin color all my life and privilege isn't a thing, i am poor and lived in poverty all my life, i am not given any advantages and in fact a lot of the times i am denied things because i am white so yea i dunno.I am sensitive to movies and shows like this. If it isn't done correctly i feel offended for my race and every race out there. We are still dividing ourselves by dividing ourselves still if that makes sense. Until we all accept each other for the color of our skins, our amazing different backgrounds, and our cultures. We will never move forward in life.

So other than that whole thing it was actually boring and the only thing i laughed at was Mckenna Grace and her sagging face looking like a bulldog lol. Anyways if you are not into politically inclined racial satire movies this movie isn't for you. It wasn't for me but i wish it luck and i know there are plenty out there that likes these types of Dark Comedy.
